The Lapsed Humanist
Periodic releases of excess ruminating
Greetings, fellow pandemic enthusiasts! How you holding up? Just a short notice here to mention that my latest album review for Vancouver Weekly is up now. The subject this time out is the latest by Algiers, There is No Year. You can read a portion of the many things I have to say about this release here. (SPOILER ALERT: I think it's an amazing collection of songs by an equally amazing band.) When you're done reading, be sure to check out their bandcamp site for some good home cooking, namely, a heap of live sets the band has made available in light of their tour being cancelled by Covid-19. If you've never seen Algiers live before, tuck in on these recordings to get your belly full. If you have seen them before, then treat yourself to something you know is good for you. There hasn't been a lot to rejoice about in 2020, but Algiers have done their part to at least give us the goods, musically that is; I cannot recommend the band enough. I hope to have another review or something similar for you all soon. Thanks for reading! Cheers!

Greetings!
My latest piece for Vancouver Weekly is up now. You can read it here. I speak with musician and fan of small towns, Tom Van Deursen about a controversy he and his band, Small Town Artillery, found themselves swallowed up in earlier this year: seems some folks in the Prairies did not take kindly to some messaging the band put out that was construed as "anti-pipline." Anyway, it was a mess enough before COVID-19 lowered the boom on the tour. On all tours, actually. om and I had a good long chat, he on Pender Island, me in my makeshift East Vancouver office. Sadly most of it didn't make the article. As is often the case. If I can find a use for the rest, I will. Read, enjoy, share, and then play some of their music. The plan is to have another two reviews up within the next 10 days. I need the distraction and music is my go-to place, so there's really no reason not to have those clips done. Cheers! |
